Step into Space, April 2022

April 22, 2022

Weizmann Australia stepped into space

At a photographic studio in Alexandria,  Sydney, supporters and friends of Weizmann Australia and its Executive gathered to take a step into Space.

Waiters in Weizmann Institute laboratory coats served soup in test tubes, drinks in syringes and dessert in beakers as they set the scene for a fun, immersive  evening of science.

The experience was then taken to the next level as the audience sat before a huge cyclorama screen on which the Science came alive.  Weizmann scientists appeared as if they were in the room, even though they were actually in Israel, and they led us on on a mind-expanding journey through  space research and exploration, quantum computing, and the key role the Weizmann Institute is playing in these areas.

This special evening with its immersive experience helped guests better understand our universe and the limitless possibilities of science research.

Comments from guests included:

“A fascinating evening of science, food and conversation.”

“One couldn’t help but reflect upon what an amazing and noble institute it is.”

“Maybe that is one unspoken aspect of the new Space Division: getting above the earthly ways and worries might give us a much better perspective on our life and values. So thanks for the invitation and an uplifting experience.”

The first presentation of the evening was an interview, conducted by Weizmann’s Vice President Professor Roee Ozeri, with Professor Oded Aharonson, Head of Weizmann’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, discussing his exciting Mars geology research, and more – watch the video below and journey to the far reaches of the universe.

Dr Sagi Ben-Ami then took a deep dive into the collaborative work Weizmann is doing within the Giant Magellan Telescope global consortium project – watch the video below and find out about the possibility of life outside our solar system.

Last, but by no means least, the final presentation was live from Weizmann’s Rehovot campus with Professor Roee Ozeri, outlining the enormous role Weizmann plays on the world stage in scientific discovery, with a focus on his area of expertise – quantum computing. Roee took questions from the audience which triggered many conversations before the close of the evening.
